Explore the amazing 1000 year old monastery of Montserrat with panoramic views, scenic walks and Escolania boy’s choir accompanied by an amazing Catalan country lunch and afternoon visit and tastings to a premier Penedes boutique winery.
You will enter the Basilica to see the famed “Black Virgin”, enjoying a walk through the chapels along the way, followed by an incredibly scenic walk along the “Rosary of Montserrat”, which leads to the sacred cave of Santa Cova. (Although we do take the Santa Cova funicular part of the way, this walk still involves 45 minutes of walking, round-trip. Those that are not physically capable of this much walking, or are simply not interested, can do the shorter walk to the Sant Miquel viewpoint, or visit the Montserrat Art Museum. Both are fantastic options.) Before departing, we’ll hear the Escolania (the famous Boys’ Choir) sing their daily short performance in the Basilica. Of course, taking in all the amazing beauty and majesty of Montserrat builds up quite an appetite, so after leaving we’ll take you to one of the local restaurants in a village down below the mountain to enjoy a great lunch of traditional Catalan cuisine. After lunch, we’ll stop off at a great little winery in the Penedes region for a brief tour, followed by a private tasting of 3-4 of their fantastic wines and cavas, before heading back to Barcelona. This trip departs at 8.30am and returns to the city around 6.30pm.
